At Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week in Geneva, RedR Australia facilitated an impactful session exploring the critical role of traditional knowledge in disaster preparedness titled From Listening to Practice: Traditional Knowledge and Disaster Preparedness.
The panelists included associate trainers and humanitarian deployees Aca 'Vuli' Gauna, Simione Bula and Georgina Galbraith, with the discussion facilitated by RedR Australia CEO Dr Helen Durham. Our panelists shared their experiences in the Pacific, including insights on how indigenous wisdom—passed down through generations—helps communities to anticipate and respond to disasters, from early warning signs in nature to locally led recovery efforts.
