RedR Australia’s EHP and HEAT courses: preparing people to be field-ready

RedR Australia are proud of our training programOur world-class courses are achieving strong participation satisfaction ratings - sitting at an average of 95% in the last year.

Including our two recent Australian-based training courses in October – the Essentials of Humanitarian Practice (EHP) course, running as non-residential program in Abbotsford, and our Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) in Macedon, Victoria.

At these hands-on courses, our trainers explained and guided participants with their knowledge and field expertise, sharing their significant real-world experiences to better equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to be systems informed and field ready.

The non-residential EHP course at Abbotsford Convent, Victoria, was designed to offer the same high-quality and practical training as our residential EHP course, whilst being more accessible.

Attracting 20 participants, the course covered the essentials of working within the humanitarian system, and what it takes to respond to an international humanitarian crisis during a multinational response.

One participant shared, “...everything feels much more realistic and achievable, (my) passion has been reignited by hearing trainers' stories... being thrown into the simulation felt realistic and was such a good learning experience.”

At the recent HEAT course at the Victorian Emergency Management Institute (VEMI) in Mt Macedon, Victoria, 32 participants learnt the critical nature of keeping teams safe, informed and operationally ready.

This course is designed to better prepare participants for challenging field deployments. It can also inform planning and program design for challenging humanitarian and development contexts.

“I came in a complete novice to this environment and really thought it would be 5 days in a classroom with some practical. I didn’t expect to be immersed right from the drop off. I am capable of more than I thought...,” a participant commented.
